Preparation and Planning

This phase involves measuring the area where the hardwood flooring will be installed, assessing the subfloor's condition, and planning the layout. It's important to choose the right type of hardwood and acclimate it to the environment.

Subfloor Preparation

The subfloor needs to be clean, level, and free from any debris or imperfections. This might involve removing the existing flooring, fixing any uneven spots, and ensuring a solid foundation for the new hardwood.

Laying Underlayment

Underlayment is often used as a moisture barrier and sound insulator. It's laid over the subfloor before the hardwood installation begins.

This is where the actual hardwood installation takes place. There are various methods, such as nail-down, glue-down, and click-lock installations. Each plank is carefully placed and secured according to the chosen method.

Trimming and Cutting

Cutting and fitting the hardwood around the edges and corners of the room is a crucial step. This ensures a neat and seamless appearance. Special attention is given to doorways and transitions between different rooms.

Sanding and Finishing

After the hardwood is installed, sanding is performed to create a smooth and even surface. This is followed by applying the chosen finish, such as stain or sealant, to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.

Curing and Drying

The finish needs time to cure and the hardwood needs time to settle. This phase involves allowing the finish to dry properly and giving the wood time to adjust to the humidity and temperature of the environment.

Final Touches

Baseboards and moldings are added to complete the look of the flooring. These elements also cover the expansion gaps required for the hardwood to naturally expand and contract.

Once the installation is complete, thorough cleanup is done to remove any dust, debris, or leftover materials from the installation process.

A final inspection ensures that the installation meets quality standards. Any necessary touch-ups or adjustments are made at this stage.

Client Walkthrough

The client is taken through the newly installed hardwood flooring, addressing any questions and ensuring satisfaction with the end result.
